I was recently switched to a different Worker’s Comp agency. They haven’t contacted me at all, and haven’t returned my calls. I’ve been on WC for almost a year, and the 1st company was cool. But they switched me to CorVel Corporation at the beginning of June, and 3 calls and one email later, no one has gotten back with me. I was calling because my paycheck was incorrect, and the first company issued it but said the second company was responsible now. The first company sent a letter saying the switch occurred, and that CorVel would be contacting me with my liaison info. Nothing yet. Should I get an attorney for this or just try to get a supervisor next time I call? I live in Lake County, FL, but CorVel and the first company are in Tampa, FL. I’ve read a couple of bad things about CorVel, but that’s the internet for you. BTW, my calls were spaced out about once a week, and email was through their site.
Our response
I recommend you consult with a knowledgeable worker’s compensation attorney. The fact that your employer has switched insurance carriers should have absolutely no effect on your right to compensation and medical care. If the new carrier has suddenly decided to make your life miserable, you have the right to bring this to the attention of a Judge of Compensation Claims to try to right this wrong.
